..What I learned was .. That honesty and frankness frightened the adults, who wanted the pretending to continue. When we are honest and frank with each other, we can build strong relationships. We know where we stand. We know how to meet each other's needs, and how to fulfill each other's dreams. Without that, we blunder and unintentionally hurt ourselves and others. One of the most important issues in family and organizational life is trust. You don't build trust by hiding your feelings, your thoughts, your hopes, your fears. You build trust by sharing, by being honest and frank. Yes it is important to be tactful. But tact and confidentiality should not prevent you from being honest and frank in most of your daily relationships. Of course, being honest and frank makes you vulnerable. You show your hand. That means it is easier for people to figure out how to attack and hurt you. When you step out from behind your defenses, you are exposed. But vulnerability can be good. When you are vulnerable, it is easier to connect with people, to get to know them, and to learn from them. And they will find it easier to connect with you. In a world of conflict, it is tempting to build up one's defenses and go around in a suit of armor. But there is a problem with that. A suit of armor protects you by containing you. You can only grow so much, and then you have to get out of the armor if you want to grow any further. Once out of your armor, you will feel vulnerable but with vulnerability comes the freedom to grow. As you enjoy both personal and professional growth, you will discover that you don't need the armor anymore. Your strength will come from inside. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The Paradoxical Commandments

Live Everyday Like It's My Last
The Reason There are many stories in life about people's death and the circumstances that differ slightly from everyone who tells them, but the core lessons remain the same. Life isn’t fair. Bad things do happen to good people. And good things do happen to bad people. Yet, these are the excuses many of us use when we choose not to follow our hearts. And they are the excuses many of us use when we choose to treat ourselves and each other without dignity and respect. But for some of us, our experiences with the people we crossed paths with are the reason we do follow our hearts. Someone's story is the reason we live to make the world a little brighter, to make people a little happier. And another's story is the reason we use all of the strength we have right now. Because we know we may not have the same strength tomorrow. Because a world with no guarantees requires us to live every day… As if it were our last. Laugh with every breath. Love as long as you live.

where is the love?
As the year comes to a close, and with all the rainy days or journey home alone, I find myself filled with flashbacks or reflections of my 2009. Of late, especially, I keep having thoughts about people. People in general. And the people who cross paths with me. It's really scary sometimes the way people turn out. Suddenly, I don't seem to know them anyway. But then again, it really beats me whether I have really know them at all or not? I must admit I live in a cove. A caterpillar's cove. Where I feel loved and warmth. And in this little world of mine everyone is nice. Genuinely nice. I don't really like the world out there.. Where is the love? Thankfully, there are the really nice ones in my life. For more than anything, I am awfully grateful to have been blessed by their presence. But it got us thinking about Loss, Memory and the whole idea of Rememberance. The loss of special people in our lives, and how this loss translates into the subsequent loss of our memory of them. They say that memory lives in the hearts of people, but how much can we actually remember to their finest detail. As humans, we have weaknesses and natural instincts such as forgetfulness. And as we forget and try to remember, this process of remembering may be just our perspective of it, how we desire for that memory to be shaped and reconstructed. In this reconstuction, the realness and essence of it might be diminished. But essentially, what is real and what is not? And as we try to preserve moments by cautiously trying to savour moments, we are ironically altering the reality of it all. Afterall, what we have are just moments, fleeting moments. It scares me.

Week 11 (:
It is finally week11! These few weeks has been pretty trying. I'm not complaining anymore. But I must say it has been a very purposeful learning journey. In a way, I am very looking forward to a good long break.

life is a box of chocolates..
..because you never know what you're gonna get. Forrest Gump said it best. Sometimes we get too tied up, too drowned in the things we do day after day. And we forget what we would have traded time for. And it's only when something/someone comes knocking on your door one fine day that you realise what you have forgotten. You have to do the best with what God gave you.

the people who matter "It's amazing, some people they say these small things, one sentence and it changes the way you feel about them in an instant. Small little words that can hurt you so much or make you feel so good - about yourself, about everything. It changes everything. Nothing between you is ever really the same again. Even if they don’t know it, it still happens. In an instant they stop being just anyone and become so special to you. Your pillar of strength, shoulder to cry on, whatever, they're just always there. It's these people you need to keep in your life."

makeover
Like the blogskin, I guess I probably need a makeover - internally, that is. I do feel that it has been a little tougher than usual these days.. Not exactly the roughest patch. I guess it's high time I start thinking. Just spend some quiet days on my own. Thinking. Slowing down. And appreciating everything. on a sidenote, I recently publicised borrowed words; where I keep a collection of words and pictures.

before I forget.. today honey massaged my feet. it's an amazingly lovely feel. because being the flat-feet person I am, and always out and about, sometimes my feet will get really tired. and it hurts when they're tired. this is the first time ever that he rubs my feet. |
